From the “most unusual things to happen at the office” file, Edwin came into my office yesterday with a CASE of mustard. A case of 16oz bottles of French’s Mustard. He asked me, “What do I need to do with this?” I took the note atop the case and read it.
It was from a local ministry of which I have never heard. It basically said “I want your church to donate Bibles to my mission project, and to thank you for your support, I am giving you TWO cases of mustard . . . One for the church, one for the pastor.” (YES, there was another one on the front porch of the church)
Okay, that is just flat-out manipulation. Bribery of sorts. And I don’t even like mustard. What do you do?? Do you call him and tell him to come get his mustard?? Looking at his documentation, there is no telling if this is legitimate or not. And the mustard looks like it has been in a warehouse for three years . . . Boxes are pretty weathered.
Anyway, if anyone wants to tackle investigating and/or taking this mission project on, I have TWO cases of mustard for you!
PS – Here is a great article I found today about pastors and stress . . . Things EVERY church member should know.
