European Vacation

That is the “style” of vacating I am doing . . . I will explain more later. Since I am on vacation, I am not allowed to think, and therefore not allowed to write (The vacation cop COULD even bust me for writing this much). Therefore, I will post a few links to some of my favorite clips and commercials, courtesy of our friends at Youtube.

These are my favorite V-dub commercials . . . Enjoy!

I miss Duane Jones. He IS a friend of mine, but I miss him in other ways — He ran the service department at Cale Yarborough Honda. He always took good care of me.

Yesterday, I had the FIRST EVER problem with my Accord. It is two years old, and I have put 30K miles on it. After going to the hospital, I was dropping the newsletter off at the USPS Bulk Mail Center. When I returned to my car, I put my key in and my dashboard looked like a slot machine in Vegas: Clicking, buzzing, random lights everywhere, but NO CRANKY. Impulsively, I called Cale Yarborough. The guy that answered in the service department told me it sounded like the battery and I was on my own . . . (I bought an extended warranty with HondaCare, which is their equivelent to AAA). I was surprised he said THAT and called Bill Watkins, who came and helped me jump it off.

I drove straight to CYH, knowing that the battery is covered by a 3 year warranty and wondering if I would have to fight for it. They did not flinch, but the dude told me it might be a couple of hours. I asked him if I could change it and just “exchange” the old one for the new one (I have changed a couple of batteries in my life) He said no.

About the time I called someone to come get me, HE was changing it. I appreciated that. After he changed it he could not get it to crank . . . It would turn over, but not crank. I have NEVER had that problem. When he finally got it cranked, the check engine light came on. He asked me if it was on before, which it was not. He then offered to have it checked, but said it MIGHT cost $70. I told him to do it, but was arming up for a healthy discussion if the MIGHT became WILL.

In the end, the mechanic replaced the battery with ANOTHER new one, checked it over, said the light came on because the old battery had goofed things up. I walked out with a new battery and a warrantied bill (I did not have to pay). In the end, I was happy.

But I sure miss my buddy Duane.
