What a WEEKEND!!

4 Sep

I enjoyed a rare privilege this weekend . . . My family and I went to Nashville, TN, to do a wedding I promised to do THIRTEEN YEARS AGO. Jessica Dowdy DIXON is one of my former youth from Woodmere Baptist Church in Harvey, LA. Jess and her family were OUR FAMILY while we were in seminary. Her mom, Jay, was a right hand to both me and Diana. Her dad, Dave, kept me out of trouble and kept my old Bronco II running while we were in New Orleans.

The cool thing for me in doing this wedding was remembering when we did a True Love Waits commitment with our youth group. Jess told me her mom found the letter she wrote to her future husband, and she was going to give it to Rob. (Jami Alford wrote “Hi Jessica’s future husband” on the envelope. Typical Jami)

So, we loaded up the truck and we moved to Beverly . . . I mean, we drove to Nashville this weekend. Of course, several things had to happen before we got there. When the new dude at Cale Yarborough refused to change my oil on Thursday, I tried to do it myself . . . And they had over-tightened the oil drain plug. Debbie Cyphers saved me on that one and worked us in for a late-afternoon oil change. Then, on Friday morning as we were pulling out at my dad’s house, we found my battery DEAD. August is NOT a good month for Wike Honda batteries. Thank goodness it happened in Easley and not on the road.

After that, the trip was almost without event. The wedding went great! We took my mom and dad with us and my sister in Memphis drove over to see us. It was a good trip.

In my next blog or two, I will tell you what we did when we got back to Easley late Sunday afternoon . . .
